Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Friday raised a question that whether he was going to risk paralysis by increasing blood sugar level.
Abhishek Manu Shingvi, who is arguing for Kejriwal said, “ED claimed that I want to increase my blood sugar level to get bail. Am I going to risk paralysis to get bail? Whatever food I have is as per the diet chart prior to the arrest.” He also told that court of special judge Kaveri Baweja that Kejriwal had mangoes just thrice in jail and he has also consumed aloo puri as a Navaratra prasad just once.
After the arguments, the jail authorities and the ED have to reply by today. They will also announce the order by Monday also. According to Shingvi, no mangoes have been sent after 8th April. The application of Kejriwal had stated that out of 48 meals, only a small portion of mango was sent thrice.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Shingvi told that Arvind Kejriwal uses only sugar-free in his tea. However, special counsel Zoheb Hosein, appearing for ED, accused Kejriwal for misusing the legal time.
“The diet appears to be very regulated and strict. Therefore, there is a direct correlation between his submission that he is having an alarming rise in his sugar level and his diet”, submitted the special council.
The jail authority also submitted CM’s health report to LG V K Sexana. Kejriwal who is been treated by a private doctor in Telangana, intakes insulin several months ago. During the time of medical assessments in Tihar jail, he informed to the doctors that he used insulin for the past few years but stopped its usage for few months. The Tihar administration also wrote a report to AIIMS, informing that he regularly consuming high sugar foods such as sweet, ladoo’s, banana, fruit, chat, bhujia, poori aloo and high cholesterol foods.
The administration submitted a report that there is adequate availability of insulin in the jail and it can not be administered to Kejriwal “as and when required”, the officials said.
Though the legal team of Kejriwal had consulted with his physician and access to insulin. The plea, also request the doctors for organizing a video conference for 15 minutes daily and awaits the decision from the court. However the Kejriwal medical condition regarding his insulin issue have been a broader political tension in connection with Delhi excise policy. But still the question arises about the intersection of health, law and politics in India’s legal system.
