Rahul Gandhi, congress MP, attacked Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi over the NEET-UG medical entry controversy, on Sunday, claiming that even before he takes the oath of office for a new term in office, the alleged “irregularities” in the exam had destroyed over 24 lakh students.

Gandhi assured students in the country that he will become their voice in Parliament and strongly raise the issues related to their future.

He claimed that the Congress has devised a comprehensive strategy to combat the “paper leak industry,” which operates with the cooperation of the government apparatus and the education mafia. “We had pledged in our manifesto to give students ‘freedom from paper leak’ by making a law,” he stated. “Today, I assure all students of the country that I will become your voice in Parliament and strongly raise issues related to your future.”

Gandhi said, “The youth have shown faith in the INDIA bloc, which will not allow their voices to be suppressed.”

In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi said, “Narendra Modi has not even taken oath yet and the irregularities in the NEET exam have devastated more than 24 lakh students and their families.”

Six students from a single exam Centre topped the exam with maximum marks, while many received scores that are technically impossible, but the government is continuously denying the possibility of a paper leak, the former Congress president said.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has come out in support of the medical aspirants and demands justice and transparency for all affected students.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 4 announced the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) results on the official website. Students who appeared can check the result and download the scorecard at exams.nta.ac.in.

Medical aspirants and the public across the country have voiced their dissatisfaction with the ongoing controversy around the NEET UG 2024 results that were declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 4, 2024.

Many are demanding the cancellation of the NEET UG 2024 results that were declared and a thorough investigation into the allegations of discrepancies in the conduct of the examination

The cut-off this year for the general category candidates has increased from 720-137 last year to 720-164 this year. The all India rank 1 is shared by 67 students. They have scored 99.997129 percentile.

NEET UG 2024 Result: The committee has started the investigation

The National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Education Ministry June 8 announced the formation of a four-member committee to review the results of over 1,500 candidates who were awarded “grace marks” to compensate for the “loss of time” suffered while appearing for this year’s National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate).

A former UPSC chairman and three other academicians have been selected for this panel, which has started investigation and is expected to announce its verdict before next Saturday.

The announcement came amid an uproar over the NEET-UG results this year, with states like Maharashtra demanding a retest and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demanding a Supreme Court-monitored probe into alleged discrepancies highlighted by students on social media.

National Testing Agency (NTA): Agency under the radar

National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established as a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions.

To assess competence of candidates for admissions and recruitment has always been a challenge in terms of matching with research based international standards, efficiency, transparency and error free delivery. The National Testing Agency is entrusted to address all such issues using best in every field, from test preparation, to test delivery and to test marking.

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a national-level competitive examination conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) in India to determine eligibility for admission to undergraduate medical and dental programs in India.
