Mumbai Police on December 26 reported that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and other prominent banks like HDFC and ICICI in the city received alarming bomb threats.

What’s the threat?
The RBI received a threatening email in which it was said that bombs would be planted in RBI offices, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank. The mail threatened that a total of 11 bomb attacks would be carried out at 11 locations in Mumbai on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

A screenshot of the threat email read: “We planted 11 bombs at various locations in Mumbai. The RBI and private sector banks have carried out the biggest scam in Indian history. The scam involves RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, Finance. Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, some of the top banking officials, and some eminent ministers of India.”

The email also mentions three bomb sites. ” 1. RBI-New Central Building Fort, Mumbai; 1. HDFC House-Churchgate, Mumbai; 3. ICICI Bank Towers, BKC, Mumbai.” A warning was also issued that the bombs would explode at 1:30 p.m. “We demand both the RBI Governor and the Finance Minister to immediately resign from their posts and issue a press statement with a full disclosure of the scam. We demand both them and the government punish those involved,” the email said.
Demand for FM and RBI Governor’s resignation
Terrorists wrote in the email, “We demand that both the RBI governor and the Finance Minister resign from their positions immediately and release operation with full disclosure of the scam. We also demand the government give them both and all those who are involved punishment; they will dissolve if our demands are not made before 1:30 p.m.; all 11 bombs will be blasted one by one.”

Who’s the Sender?
The email user named ‘Khilafat India’ alleged that Nirmala Sitharaman and Shaktikanta Das were involved in the “biggest scam in Indian history”.

Under Investigation
A formal case has been registered against this menacing threat at the MRA Marg police station under sections 505 (1) (b), 505 (2), and 506 (2) of the IPC, officials said.
A team of investigators visited 11 locations where nothing suspicious was found, they added.
