India’s largest investment summit kicked off in Gujarat’s GIFT City on January 10. Tata Son’s Chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, was among the businessmen present at the Gujarat Vibrant Summit 2024 on the first day. Speaking about Tata Group’s expansion in Gujarat, here announced that Tata Group will build a semi-conductor factory at Dholera soon and it will begin operations in 2024 itself.
“Tata Group has also made a commitment, and is on the verge of concluding and announcing a huge semiconductor fab in Dholera, and we are about to complete these negotiations..” Chandrasekaran said.
Tata Group’s expansion to the state
Chandrasekaran said in the recent past, Tata Group had gladly made a significant commitment’ to expand its presence. Adding to the growing demand for EVs, he stated that the state is becoming a home for the group’s all-electric vehicle technology.
Tata Group is also building the C295 defence aircraft in Vadodara and will expand the manufacturing at Dholera, Chandrasekaran said.
Apart from that, the first phase of the Indian Institute of Skills, being constructed in partnership with the central and state governments, will be launched by March 2024 in the state, he said.
Battery factory is coming soon
Speaking at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar, he said the group is about to start a 20 GW giga-factory for manufacturing lithium ion batteries in Sanand city in two months.
“This ambitious initiative marks a strategic move by Tata to bolster its presence in the renewable energy sector and contribute to India’s growing focus on sustainable power solutions,” the chairman added.
ChandraSekaran praised Gujarat’s progressive strength
Chandrasekaran expressed the group’s view of Gujarat as a crucial destination for business growth and the development of advanced technology industries in India.
Presently, the Tata Group operates 21 companies in the state, employing over 50,000 people. The chairman attributed the strong connection between the group and Gujarat to the founder Jamshedji Tata’s hometown being Navsari.
“We see Gujarat as a very important destination, not only for business growth but for the future advanced technology industries that India is looking to grow in,” he said.
He also added that the “steady and spectacular” progress in Gujarat demonstrates the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who started the event two decades ago. The economic benefits that have accrued to the state have also had a tremendous impact on social development.
Lastly, he described Gujarat as a “gateway to the future” because of its strengths.
