The CBI today raided the residence of former Governor Satya Pal Malik in the corruption case of the Hydro Power Project. At the same time, the investigating agency raided more than 30 other places.
The CBI searched a total of 30 places, including the residence of former Governor Satya Pal Malik, in connection with the investigation of allegations of scam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kiru Hydro Project.
Allegations for accepting Bribery in Hydro Projects
There is an allegation of scam in the tender for civil works worth Rs 2200 crore in the hydro project. Satyapal Malik has been alleged of taking a bribe of Rs 150 crore for tendering the tender to the special company while he was the governor. However, Malik has not yet revealed the name of the bribe offering.
Between 23 August 2018 and 30 October 2019, Satya Pal Malik, who was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, had claimed that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore for clearing the two files.
The CBI on Thursday raided the premises of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik and his close associates.
These raids have been working in many places including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mumbai.
Satyapal Malik on CBI raids against him
Satyapal Malik is currently admitted in the hospital. Malik wrote on the social media site, “The persons involved in corruption, is not investigated but those whon have complained about them have been raided by CBI on my residence.”
He further added “I will not have anything except 4-5 kurta pajama. The dictator is trying to scare me by misusing the government agencies. I am the son of a farmer, I will neither be afraid nor will I bow down.”
Malik in limelight after his statement
Satyapal Malik, who was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from 23 August 2018 to 30 October 2019, was in the limelight after blaming Modi government in pulwama attack.
Malik had made a statement that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore for clearing two files in that same interview where he further acclaimed government over pulwama, his statement created a stir in the central government.
The CBI had started the investigation of the matter. Last year too, the investigating agency had raided many of Malik’s associates. About a dozen people were questioned in April and May. In January this year also, the CBI had conducted searches at many places in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from cash worth Rs 21 lakh in these raids, documents related to digital equipment and real estate were recovered. The investigating agency had registered a case against several officials in this case.
Charged of Misconduct and Bribery
In 2019, the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project (HEP), he was charged of misconduct in awarding the contract for civil works worth around Rs 2,200 crore to a private company.
CBI is taking forward the investigation of the same case. The investigating agency has registered a case against Naveen Kumar Choudhary, former president of Chenab Valley Power Projects (P) Limited, former officers MS Babu, MK Mittal and Arun Kumar Mishra and Patel Engineering Limited.
Malik’s OSD Statement on this raids
KS Rana, who was the OSD of former Governor Malik, said in a conversation with Amar Ujala that the government is deliberately harassing Malik Saheb. He raised the issue of Pulwama attack as he spoke in support of women wrestlers and now he has given a statement regarding the demand of farmers.
No matter how many raids the government conducts, Satya Pal Malik will continue to speak in favor of the farmers.
