The Uttar Pradesh police constable recruitment exam was held on February 17 and 18, with a total of 48 lakh candidates appearing.
However, since the exam’s completion, rumours have been rampant on social media alleging paper leaks, causing significant concern among candidates.
These allegations surfaced through screenshots and images circulated on various social media platforms, prompting demands for the cancellation of the exam.
After Protest by aspirants alleging a paper leak, the Uttar Pradesh government Saturday announced that the police constable recruitment examination held on February 17 and 18 stands cancelled and will be held again within six months.
The government has decided to get the paper leak investigated by the UP Police Special Task Force (STF).
Understanding the UP Police Recruitment Exam Paper Leak Incident
Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) recently organized the written examination (UP Police Constable Exam 2024) for 48 lakh candidates who applied for recruitment to more than 60 thousand posts of constable (civilian police) in the state police done on 17 and 18 February 2024.
After the conduct of the examination, the board informed that the exam was conducted successfully.
However, there was a continuous demand by some candidates to re-conduct the examination along with claims that the question paper of the examination (UP Police Constable Exam 2024) was leaked on social media.
UP Police recruitment examination leaked paper shared via WhatsApp

Pictures of the question paper had started going viral on social media. Copies of it started being shared with students on their WhatsApp.
Board’s decision to send the paper for leak investigation
In this sequence, UPPRPB was invited evidence of question paper going viral on social media from all such candidates, who can now help in linking them as evidence.
For this, an update was once again issued by the Board on 22 February 2024 that the candidates should mail their evidence through the issued email ID board@uppbpb.gov.in by 6 pm on Friday, 23 February 2024.
Huge protest by students in Lucknow
In response to extensive youth protests, the Yogi Adityanath-led government, on February 24, yielded to pressure and cancelled the state police constable recruitment examination due to rampant complaints of question paper leaks and other irregularities throughout Uttar Pradesh.
The aspirants, cutting across castes and religion, also staged a massive protest outside the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission office in Prayagraj, putting the government in a tight corner.
On Friday, students once again started protesting alleging paper leak in the constable recruitment examination in UP.
The candidates protesting in Lucknow’s Eco Garden were demanding re-examination.
In view of the situation, a large number of police forces and PAC were deployed there. The matter seemed to be getting worse in view of Loksabha elections under which such a decision was taken.
Priyanka Gandhi attacks BJP govt in UP over question paper leaks, bulldozer justice
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday lashed out at the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over question paper leaks of various recruitment exams and the extra-judicial bulldozer actions against “innocent” people.
“In 2022, we had made a plan to stop repeated question paper leaks, and a job calendar with the exam date and the appointment date,” Priyanka Gandhi said on Saturday in Moradabad, after UP police recruitment exam was cancelled following a leak.
Investigation under the hands of Special Task Force UP
The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Saturday began an investigation into the paper leak of the police constable recruitment examination, which was cancelled by the state government earlier in the day.
Digital evidence related to the paper leak was collected by the Special Task Force. Many teams have been activated to probe the matter.
The STF has collected evidence from Vivek Kumar, a teacher from Exampur, a startup that prepares government exam candidates. Kumar was the first to alert the police over the paper leak.
STF Actions by connecting links of Leak Incidence
STF has started its action in Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Paper Leak case and has also arrested an accused.
STF has arrested the accused Neeraj Yadav, who was sending answers to questions to the candidates on WhatsApp.
According to the information, Neeraj Yadav is a resident of Ballia. After this, now the police is searching for an accused resident of Mathura who sent the answer key to Neeraj.
Tight security arrangements were made during the examination
Strict security arrangements were made for this examination held on 17 and 18 February.
A ban was imposed on carrying any electronic device in the examination centres. They had also installed jammers to disrupt Bluetooth or other electronic devices.
UP CM assured for Identification of Accused in Paper Leak Incidence
After initially denying the allegations of a paper leak, the UP home department, under chief minister Yogi Adityanath, on Saturday afternoon, said it had directed the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board to conduct fresh exams within six months
The UP government has assured to identify the accused involved in this case and later give them the harshest punishment.
Besides this, CM Yogi has also given instructions to conduct the examination again within 6 months.
Chief Minister Yogi himself gave this information while sharing a post on the social media platform.
