With a creative vision for Assam Transport Corporation, on January 7, Minister of State for Transport, Parimal Suklabaidya launched “Electric Bike Taxi and Delivery Service” through the “Baayu ASTC App.” This is a historic initiative in efficient and sustainable transport in Assam. Held in the state’s capital, Guwahati, the inauguration event witnessed the unveiling of India’s first app-based 100% electric and decentralized bike taxi services.
Eco friendly collaborative approach
It is an innovative and forward-thinking sustainable mobility initiative of the state government-run Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC). Baayu (an app-based electric bike taxi service), a startup from Assam, in collaboration with ASTC’s Bikozee Ecotech, proudly presents eco-friendly transportation solutions by integrating India’s first 100% electric and decentralized bike taxi service with Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Apropos, ONDC is an initiative of DPIIT (Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India), which aims to democratize digital commerce by establishing an interoperable open network, enabling digital transactions in goods and services.
5000 livelihood assurance with emphasis on sustainability
According to a press release by ASTC, Baayu aims to create 5,000 livelihood opportunities for driver partners here in Assam with electric vehicles, technology platforms, insurance, training, skill development and operating licenses in line with the Assam Aggregator Rules 2022. The initiative will save 29,000 tonnes of carbon. Annual emissions Baayu will save 73 crore rupees annually in fuel consumption.

Importance on ‘Baayu Clean Air Movement ’
Backed by NITI Aayog’s ‘Shoonya’ (Zero Pollution Mobility) campaign, ASTC aims to improve the air quality and public health of the country’s cities by deploying electric vehicles in the transport and logistics sector and thus applying decentralized technology
of Beckn protocol to develop digital public infrastructures.

It marks a proud moment for Assam as it became the first state in India to launchan app- based 100% e-taxi service. Besides extending his sincere wishes to the entire team, the Assam Transport Minister, urged the bike riders to strictly adhere to all road safety norms while commuting on roads and carrying passengers.
