The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed on 26 March, 2024 after a massive Dali container ship chartered by shipping company Maersk lost power and crashed into the Baltimore bridge across the Patapsco River in the Baltimore area of Maryland, United States of America. Since then, this large ship was stranded to this iconic bridge.
Now, to set the Dali afloat again, Crews set off a chain of carefully placed explosives to break down the largest remaining span of the Bridge, with a boom and a splash, the mangled steel trusses came crashing down into the river below. Part of a collapsed bridge in Baltimore has been deliberately destroyed, clearing the way for the eventual full return of shipping through one of the busiest sea routes in the US. The Dali’s crew remained on board the ship during the combustion, and no injuries or problems were reported.
The small explosions was being done to dismantle the huge piece of the bridge and push the remnants away from the ship. Controlled demolition is a major step in freeing the Dali, which has been stuck among the wreckage since it lost power and crashed into one of the bridge’s support columns shortly after leaving Baltimore on March this year. Collapse of the bridge halted most maritime traffic through Baltimore’s busy port and causes economic and human losses.
This Blast is for better as it will restore traffic through the port, which will provide relief for thousands of truckers and small business owners who have seen their jobs impacted by the closure.
