CM Punjab announces, farmers can batch the sand accumulated in the fields during floods
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has announced that farmers can sell the sand accumulated in their fields on the banks of Sutlej and Beas rivers during last year’s floods.
CM Mann said this after the issue was raised by independent MLA Rana Inder Pratap Singh on the second day of the budget session in the Punjab Assembly.
Sultanpur Lodhi MLA said that after the flood, four to five feet of sand has accumulated in the agricultural fields in some villages of his assembly constituency.
On this, the Chief Minister said that the state government will allow farmers to sell up to four feet of sand accumulated in their fields during the floods last year.
Mann said that this sand will belong to the farm owners and the state government will not impose any tax on it. CM said that the notification will be issued soon.
Meanwhile, participating in the discussion on the Governor’s address, Punjab Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the AAP government created a “record of development” in the state in the last two years and freed 12,000 acres of encroached panchayat land. He alleged that the previous governments did nothing in the state.
