Bharat Ratna Awardee 2024 list extended to 2 Former PM, Targeting Mandal, Mandir & Market

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Bharat Ratna for two former PMs - Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao - and MS Swaminathan, widely regarded as the Father of the Green Revolution in India.

The Government of India on 10th Feb announced to honor the country’s former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Prime Minister ­Narasimha Rao and great agricultural scientist Dr. MS Swaminathan the man behind Indian Green Revolution, with the country’s highest honor Bharat Ratna.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given this information by tweeting on his social media account ‘X’ (earlier Twitter). Also announced Bharat Ratna while telling about the contribution of the three great people.

Posthumous Bharat Ratna Awardees

Farmer politician and 5th Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh has lived his entire life within the limits of the country and rural environment.

He died on 29 May 1987 at the age of 84.

Pamulapati Venkata Narasimha Rao was the 9th Prime Minister of India, who was also the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

He died on 23 December 2004 at the age of 83.

Dr. MS Swaminathan, known as the father of the Green Revolution, breathed his last on 28 September 2023 at the age of 93.

The Narendra Modi government at the Center has given Bharat Ratna to the fifth Prime Minister of the country, Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Chaudhary Charan Singh, one of the big leaders of the socialist movement, took the peasant movement in Uttar Pradesh to a different level.

Now, the Government of India has decided to honor him with the country’s highest civilian honor.

PM announcing on his X platform said “ It is the good fortune of our government that former Prime Minister of the country, Chaudhary Charan Singh is being honored with Bharat Ratna.”

PM furthur said that this honor is dedicated to his incomparable contribution to the country.

He further added “He had dedicated his entire life to the rights of farmers and their welfare. Be it the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh or the Home Minister of the country and even as an MLA, he always gave impetus to nation building. He also stood firmly against the Emergency. His dedication to our farmer brothers and sisters and his commitment to democracy during the Emergency is inspiring to the entire nation.”

With the award of Bharat Ratna to former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh, the alliance between BJP and RLD in the Lok Sabha elections has also been sealed.

RLD President Jayant Chaudhary himself has confirmed this. On media questions regarding the alliance, he said, ‘Is there still any questions left that is unturned now? How can I refuse your questions today?”

There is also news that a deal has been made with BJP on seats in the Lok Sabha elections. RLD Chief Jayant Chaudhary also quoted Prime minister’s tweet by thanking him on ‘X’.

Father of India’s LPG Policy: Former PM PV Narsimha Rao

Delighted to share that our former Prime Minister, Shri PV Narasimha Rao Garu, will be honoured with the Bharat Ratna.

As a distinguished scholar and statesman, Narasimha Rao Garu served India extensively in various capacities.

PM added “ Narasimha Rao Garu’s tenure as Prime Minister was marked by significant measures that opened India to global markets, fostering a new era of economic development. ”

Later he added “Furthermore, his contributions to India’s foreign policy, language and education sectors underscore his multifaceted legacy as a leader who not only steered India through critical transformations but also enriched its cultural and intellectual heritage.”

Late Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna on Friday.

Former Prime Minister’s grandson NV Subhash Rao expressed happiness and praised PM Modi for conferring Bharat Ratna on Narasimha Rao.

Expressing his happiness, NV Subhash Rao said that I am really very happy that after a long time Narasimha Rao has received Bharat Ratna.

He said, “I am very happy and grateful to PM Modi. His contribution has been recognised. His contribution has been ignored for a long time.”

Subhash Rao said, “PM Modi has honored Narasimha Rao, although he is from the Congress party. Now, I blame the UPA government especially the Gandhi family from 2004 to 2014, when the UPA government was in power at the Centre, India Forget the gem, I didn’t even get any award.”

India’s Father of Green Revolution: MS Swaminathan

The family is very happy and delighted with the honour, said Dr Soumya Swaminathan, former chief scientist of WHO and the daughter of noted agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan who was honoured with the Bharat Ratna today.

Naturally we are very happy, delighted and feel honoured that he has been honoured with the highest civilian award of the country that is given to the country’s most eminent citizens. I think it’s a fitting tribute for somebody who spent his whole life working for the country. So it’s a very happy and wonderful day today, she said.

The award comes just months after MS Swaminathan’s death in September 2023. “My father passed away just a few months ago and I’m sure that he would’ve been truly very, very happy if he had the news during his lifetime,” said his daughter.

PM Modi praised MS Swaminathan and said “Dr. MS Swaminathan Ji, is recognition of his monumental contributions to our nation in agriculture and farmers’ welfare. He played a pivotal role in helping India achieve self-reliance in agriculture during challenging times and made outstanding efforts towards modernizing Indian agriculture.”
