Last year, there was an increase of 15 percent in the prices of grains. In such a situation, to control the prices of grains, the government will launch Bharat Rice today.
Under this Brand, rice will be given at a concessional rate of Rs 29 per kg. Subsidized rice will be available in Bharat Rice in packs of 5 kg and 10 kg.
The retail prices of rice in India have seen a rise in the last one year. In such a situation, the Government of India is starting to sell rice at concessional rates to provide relief to the consumers.
Bharat Rice will get good response
Food Minister Piyush Goyal is scheduled to launch Bharat Rice on the Kartvya Path in the national capital, an official press release said.
Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Piyush Goyal on Tuesday flagged off 100 mobile vans laden with rice named Bharat.
On this occasion, the Union Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sensitive towards the needs of the people of the country. The prices of essential commodities are being controlled under their supervision. Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, Bharat Rice will be made available at just Rs 29 from today.
The Union Minister said that the Government of India purchases essential commodities from farmers for the welfare of the farmers as well as the people of the country and sells them to consumers at concessional rates when needed.
Food Corporation of India (FCI) along with two cooperative societies, National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India (NCCF) as well as Kendriya Bhandar will start Phase-1 of retail chain of 5 lakh tonnes of rice.
Selling Bharat Rice
These agencies will pack the rice in 5 kg and 10 kg and retail through their outlets under the “Bharat” brand. Rice will also be sold through e-commerce platforms.
The government has resorted to retail sale of FCI rice after receiving a lackluster response to the sale of rice to bulk users at flat rates through the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS).
Government Plans
The government hopes to get good response for “Bharat Rice” as it is getting for “Bharat Atta”, sold through the same agencies at Rs 27.50 per kg and “Bharat Chana” at Rs 60 per kg. going. Despite restrictions on exports and bumper production in 2023-24, retail prices are still not under control.
E-commerce platform will available to buy Bharat Rice
According to PTI , the e-commerce platform will also sell ‘Bharat Rice’.
It means clearly that you can order it from Flipkart and Amazon. But at the time of writing the post, when we checked on Flipkart, it was not available.
Besides this, we could not find it even on Amazon. However, when we talked to the retailer store of Jio Mart, we came to know that it will be available in Jio Mart very soon.
To Tackle Inflation
The government has asked retailers, wholesalers, processors and large retail chains to disclose their stocks to prevent hoarding.
Experts said at a time when the government provides free FCI rice to 80 crore poor ration card holders, high inflation cannot happen in FCI rice as FCI has huge stocks and sells the grain through OMSS.
Therefore, inflation is probably coming from non-FCI varieties of rice, which are less consumed by the poor and do not give a true picture about inflation trends.
Will get response like ‘Bharat Atta’ and ‘Bharat Dal’
According to the report, after the lackluster response received during the sale of rice to bulk users at flat rate through Open Market Sale Scheme (OMMS), the Central Government has taken the step of retail sale of rice procured from FCI and it is expected that It will get the same good response as Bharat Atta and Bharat Dal have got.
Government move for Loksabha elections
Before the Lok Sabha elections, the government’s move is worth mentioning that India flour is being sold through NAFED and NCCF at the rate of Rs 27.50 per kg, while Bharat Dal is being sold at the rate of Rs 60 per kg. Lok Sabha elections are going to be held this year and before this, the government is considering an attempt to provide relief to the consumers by reducing the burden of hike in the sale prices of rice at a cheaper rate.
