The Delhi Development Authority has demolished the house of lawyer Hasan, who was among the 12 rat miners who were instrumental in saving the lives of 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarkashi for several days.
Rat Hole Minor House razed by DDA in Delhi
Wakeel Hassan, one of the rat-hole miners who was part of the Uttarakhand rescue team, allegedly said that despite assurance from the government, his house was demolished.
Some houses of Khajuri Khas were also demolished in the demolition drive run by the Delhi Development Authority in Delhi on Wednesday, which the authority officials are citing as illegal structures.
Khajuri Khas Demolition drive
Out of all the people of the population affected in this demolition drive of Khajuri Khas, Uttarakhand Uttarkashi’s Wakeel Hasan, who worked as a rate hole minor worker in the tunnel.
He had played an important role in getting 41 workers out of the Uttarkashi tunnel. He was part of the team that successfully rescued workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel in November last year.

In a video message today, Wakeel Hasan says that development authority officials demolished his house without any notice.
Hasan further alleges that his house was the only gift he asked from the government, As a gift for rescuing Uttarakhand Uttarkashi operation. But today on Wednesday DDA razod his house without any notice, he has told this in his video message.
Incident Reminder
It should be noted that on November 12, a major accident occurred after a landslide in the Silkyari tunnel under construction in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.
A landslide occurred in the early hours of Diwali, after which a section of the under-construction Silkyara-Dandalgaon tunnel collapsed, trapping 41 workers inside.
After that, the campaign to rescue the trapped workers continued for several days. Many agencies like NDRF, SDRF, BRO and NHIDCL and ITBP were involved in rescue operations. But he did not succeed.
Eventually, rat miners from Delhi were called to Uttarkashi, where they manually dug 10-12 meters in 21 hours and cleared the way out for the workers.
Hasan’s House Demolition and DDA reply over incident
In the video, Hassan showcased the aftermath of the demolition. He also mentioned having to visit a police station in connection with the incident.
Accompanying him in the video was Munna Qureshi, another member of the rescue team, who alleged that they were subjected to police brutality during the incident.
In response to enquiries about the demolition drive, the DDA asserted that it was carried out on land designated for planned development and told news agency PTI, “On February 28, a demolition drive was conducted by the DDA to remove encroachment from its acquired land in village Khajoori Khas.”
