Economist Parakala Prabhakar has claimed that if BJP wins the Lok Sabha elections this year, there will be no re-elections in the country.
This statement of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s husband Parakala is going viral on social media. The country’s main opposition party Congress itself has shared the video of Parakala Prabhakar’s statement.
He even claimed that a situation like Manipur can happen in the entire country.
Congress party shares Parakala video on its ‘X‘ handle
Sharing the 1.49 minute video of Parakala on social media platform X, the Congress quoted, “If Modi becomes the Prime Minister again in 2024, then there will never be elections in the country again. The constitution of the country will change. Modi himself will give a hate speech from the Red Fort and a situation like Ladakh-Manipur will arise in the entire country – Parakala Prabhakar.”
The party further said in the caption, “Parakala ji is a well-known economist and the husband of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.”

There will be no elections in 2029, warns Parakala Prabhakar
Citing statements made by BJP leaders, like ‘isko Pakistan jaane ka hai, jane do’ (If they want to go to Pakistan, let them), Dr. Prabhakar said that these hate speeches will now rise from Red Fort in Delhi.
Political economist and husband of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Parakala Prabhakar said if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is re-elected again in 2024, then there will never be elections in the country again.
Situation like Manipur will happen in the whole country: Economist Parakala
Dr. Prabhakar further said that the unrest that gripped Manipur due to the ethnic clashes between Kuki and Meitei communities will be the norm across India, if at all Mr. Modi returns to power.
Nirmala Sitharaman’s husband Parakala also warned of a situation like Manipur in the entire country.
He said, “Right now you feel that violence is happening in Manipur, so there is no possibility of us happening here. You don’t need to think, because what is happening in Manipur today can happen tomorrow in you or our state too. Right now in Ladakh, Manipur As the situation is there or the treatment has been done to the farmers, the same will happen in the whole country.”
Prabhakar is a fierce critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In March, Prabhakar said the “electoral bond scam is not just the biggest scam in India but the biggest scam in the world. After electoral bond corruption became public, now the fight is not between two alliances but between the BJP and the people of India.”
‘I don’t have the money to contest Lok Sabha elections’: FM Nirmala Sitharaman
Parakala’s statemets comes only a few days after his wife, the Finance Minister of India cited financial constraints as the reason for not running for elections this time.
“After thinking for a week or ten days, I went back to say, ‘Maybe not’. I do not have that kind of money to contest. I also have a problem whether it is Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu. It’s also going to be a question of various other winnability criteria that they use… Are you from this community or are you from that religion? Are you from this? I said no, I do not think I am going to able to do it,” she said at the news channel summit.
When asked why the country’s finance minister does not have enough funds to fight elections, she said that the Consolidated Fund of India does not belong to her. She said, “My salary, my earnings, and my savings are mine and not the Consolidated Fund of India’s”.
