A day before his birth anniversary, the Government of India has announced to give him Bharat Ratna.
“The President has been pleased to award Bharat Ratna to Shri Karpoori Thakur (posthumously),” a statement issued from the President House said. This announcement has been made on the eve of 100th birth celebration of Late Thakur
Bharat Ratna is the highest honor of the country. After the announcement of Karpoori Thakur’s name for this honour, people and politicians of Bihar are praising the government for this decisions.
Karpoori Thakur, famous as a public leader, has been recognized as a freedom fighter, teacher and politician.
“ It is a matter of great pleasure to give the country’s highest honor ‘Bharat Ratna’ to former Chief Minister and great socialist leader Late Karpuri Thakur ji. This is a good decision of the Central Government. This highest honor given to Late Karpoori Thakur Ji on his 100th birth anniversary will create positive sentiments among the Dalits, deprived and neglected sections. We have always been demanding to give ‘Bharat Ratna’ to Late Karpoori Thakur ji. The years old demand has been fulfilled today. Thanks to Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for this.”

Karpoori Thakur is considered a leader who ignited the flame of social justice in the politics of Bihar. Karpoori Thakur was born in an ordinary barber family. Before the 100th birth anniversary of Karpoori Thakur on Wednesday, it has been announced that he will be honored with Bharat Ratna posthumously. Janata Dal United (JDU) had demanded to give Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur. After this announcement, JDU has expressed gratitude to the Modi government.

Karpoori Thakur became the Chief Minister of Bihar in 1977. During his tenure of just two and a half years, he worked for the interests of the downtrodden and backward people of the society. He provided free education till matriculation in Bihar. At the same time, it was made mandatory to work in Hindi in all departments of the state. During his tenure, he did many such works in favor of the poor, backward and extremely backward, which brought about a radical change in the politics of Bihar. After this, the political power of Karpoori Thakur increased tremendously and he became a big face of socialism in the politics of Bihar.

Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar are disciples of Karpoori Thakur. During the Janata Party era, Lalu and Nitish learned the tricks of politics by taking the finger of Karpoori Thakur. Karpoori Thakur died in 1988, but even after so many years, he is very popular among the backward and extremely backward voters of Bihar. It is noteworthy that the population of backward and extremely backward people in Bihar is about 52 percent. In such a situation, all the political parties keep taking the name of Karpoori Thakur with the aim of gaining influence. This is the reason why in 2020, Congress had announced to open ‘Karpoori Thakur Suvidha Kendra’ in its manifesto.
