Sanjay Nirupam on Chavan’s Resignation
Ashok Chavan was definitely an asset for the party though some are calling him a liability and some are holding ED responsible, all this is a hasty reaction.
He seemed to be very upset with the working style of a leader from Maharashtra. He had given this information to the top leadership from time to time.
If their complaints had been taken seriously, this situation would not have happened, i.e., perhaps his resignation could have been saved.
Ashok Chavan is resourceful, a skilled organiser, has a firm grasp on the ground and is a serious leader. When Bharat Jodo Yatra was in Nanded for five days last year, the entire leadership had seen his potential firsthand.

At this time, the representatives of the media asked Chavan that what happened that you decided to resign, when did you make the decision to leave the party?
On this, Ashok Chavan said, “There is no reason for everything. Also, it is not necessary to tell everyone every reason. Not everything is announced. I have never raised my party matters in front of people and media. Also, if there are any shortcomings in the party, I have never brought them to the fore.”
Regarding the decision to leave the party, Ashok Chavan said, “I have been in the Congress since the beginning. Now I think I have resigned as I have to look at other options. Leaving Congress is my personal decision.”

Leaders associated with the public are expressing dissatisfaction within Congress. I am confident that some prominent figures will switch to the BJP,” he said.
Side Change because of White Paper?
Later in the day, Mr. Ashok refuted claims that the white paper tabled in Parliament prompted him to resign from Congress.
The white paper mentioned the Adarsh Building scam, pertaining to a housing society in Mumbai, due to which he had to step down as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 2010.
He first took over as the Chief Minister in 2008, in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
