The Bombay movie industry, i.e., Bollywood rarely ever attracted an audience with any biopics, be they of personalities of contemporary relevance or of figures of historical significance. But, Main Atal Hoon, is an example of a simlplified and personification of Late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpayee.
Directed and co-written by the National Award-winning director Ravi Jadhav (Natarang, Balgandharva, Balak Palak), the film is based on Journalist Sarang Darshane’s biography of the former PM.

Atal Ji had worked much harder than that in his life, from childhood to youth and then till old age. He always wished well for the country, tried at every turn to keep the country ahead and was successful to a great extent. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is not only the Prime Minister but was a famous and popular leader and along with being a person associated with politics, he was also a famous poet, journalist and gentleman.
Mai Atal Hu: Film Plotting
Talking about this film based on the life of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pankaj Tripathi along with Director Ravi Jadhav has brought the biopic of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the big screen, released on January 19. The name of this film is Main Atal Hoon as this film is based on Atal.
The story of the film depicts the important aspects of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The story starts from 1999 where Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as the Prime Minister, is talking to the chiefs of the three armed forces regarding the activities of Pakistan. Mai Atal Hu: Fandom & Critics
A female fan of Tripathi who returned after watching the first show of the film said, “I am very excited after watching this film. I will teach my children like that.”
At the same time, another viewer said, “Atalji’s life has been shown in the film as it was. The entire film is on him. The film is very wonderful. If anyone is interested in political history, he must watch the film. Pankaj Tripathi has played the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee very well in this film.”
If we talk about the negative aspects of the film, then Pankaj Tripathi’s acting in the film is really being praised by the people, but there are some other topics which have not been worked upon like everything in the film seems like an adaptation. Also, this film has not been able to present as much depth on the aspects of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as we get to know from reading his biography.
In this film, the presentation of the film has been decided around the character of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and especially on his political life, whereas if we talk about the ups and downs in his life, then it is not visible anywhere in this film.
Mai Atal Hu: Honest Review
Apart from various pros & cons, this is an earnest effort to showcase the former prime minister’s journey, but it’s Pankaj Tripathi’s stellar act that takes the cake.“Apni aadhi aankhen band karke, jab woh puri baat bolte the, toh saat samandar paar har koi sunta tha.” That’s one of the lines from the introduction scenes has gained crowd attention alot.
In the film, people’s attention is drawn when a Pakistani journalist asks Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir that I want to marry you but I want Kashmir as per my “Muh-Dikhayi” On this, Vajpayee answers intelligently and cleverly and says that I I am also ready to marry you, in return I want the whole of Pakistan in dowry.
