(BJP) Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Mohan Charan Majhi was named the new chief minister of Odisha. Defence minister Rajnath Singh announced Majhi’s name on Tuesday after the BJP legislative party meet at the BJP state office in Bhubaneswar.
Mohan Charan Majhi had won the Keonjhar Assembly seat in the Odisha Assembly Elections, defeating Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Minu Majhi by over 11,577 votes.
BJP has emerged victorious in the Odisha Assembly elections, securing 78 out of 147 constituencies. As a result, the BJP will form its first government in the state, ending the 24-year rule of incumbent Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The legislature party of the BJP was set to meet today to elect its new leader, and the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, June 12.
