The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has come up with shortlists in 10 categories for the upcoming Oscars. On Friday, the 96th Academy Awards unveiled its nominees in the following 10 categories: Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live-Action Short Film, sound and visual effects.
Films with the most mentions in these categories include Barbie, Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Color Purple, and The Zone of Interest.
About Oscar 2024
The 96th Academy Awards will kick off on March 10, 2024. Voting for shortlists will run from January 11 to 16. The official nomination announcement is scheduled for January 23, 2024. The final list of nominees for the 96th Oscars will be announced on February 27. The show will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theater on the ABC network. It will be held at the Dolby Theatre. Emmy Award-winner, Jimmy Kimmel will host the live Oscars for the fourth time.
Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ tops the list!
Among other films, Barbie made the cut and bagged major positions in various categories. Greta Gerwig’s box office hit film has several interesting mentions in the top five shortlists in the sound category and three entries in the original song category for Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’, Dua Lipper’s ‘Dance the Night’ and Mark Ronson and Andrew White’s ‘ I’m Just ken. The film also secured a spot in the Original Score category.

Music Orginal Song category
Fifteen original songs including “Dear Alien (Who Art In Heaven)” from Asteroid City, “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony will advance for the 96th Academy Awards. Total Ninety-four songs were eligible in the category.
The list of shortlisted movies includes 15 live-action films and 15 animated films. Also, 10 and 11 films have been selected for visual effects, respectively.
No Indian film shortlisted
This year, India could not make it to the Oscar nominations. The Malayalam film ‘2018: Everybody is a Hero’ was officially sent from India for the Oscars. Unfortunately, it didn’t make the Oscar shortlist.
Last year was a year of blessings for India. The 2001 film ‘Lagan’ directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar made it to the top 5 at the Oscars. SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ movie song “Natu Natu” won the Oscar in the ‘Best Song’ category of 2023 and made the country shine.
However, The film ‘To Kill a Tiger’, based on the horrific incident of the Jharkhand gang-rape case in India, has been nominated in the Best Documentary category.
Jude Anthany Apologises to fan as his Film, ‘2018’ looses Oscar shortlist
The film’s Director Jude Anthany Joseph shared a post on his Instagram id and apologised to fans and well-wishers after the movie was not shortlisted in the Best International Feature category. “Greetings, everyone. The Oscar shortlist has been unveiled, and regrettably, our film 2018- Everyone Is A Hero did not secure a spot among the final 15 films out of the 88 international language films from across the globe. I sincerely apologize to all my well-wishers and supporters for disappointing you all. Nevertheless, the opportunity to represent India in this competition has been a dream-like journey that I will cherish for a lifetime,” Anthany wrote.
He also gave a heartfelt thanks to the producers, technicians, artists, and the audience for their tremendous support for the film.
