What is The ‘ICC player of the month’?
The ICC Player of the Month is a prestigious honor in cricket World, introduced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) since January 2021 for both men and women players. This title was meant to create international cricket more competitive.
Three nominees are selected each month, and one of them wins the title.
Nominees of November
Bangladesh’s batswoman Fargana Haque Pinki and spinner Nahida Akter have been shortlisted for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month. The third player on the list is Pakistani left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal.
In a press release on saturday, the ICC released this shortlist of the Women Player of the Month for November 2023. From here one will be the player of the month.
Women Warriors of the month
Bangladesh were all out for just 81 runs in first ODI. Nahida Akter fought alone even though the team was weak. She gave the impression of winning the match with 3 wickets for 30 runs.
She took 1 wicket for 41 runs in the second ODI. Diana Baig and Najiha Alvi broke the important pair. Apart from this, she also scored two runouts. If both teams scored 169 runs, the game went into super over. Captain Nigar Sultana trusted Nahida in the Super Over in the match to keep Bangladesh in the series.
Nahida returned the confidence by taking 2 wickets with only 7 runs in that over. Later, Bangladesh leveled the series in the last ball on Niger’s boundary.
Fargana Haque, another Bangladeshi woman player and short-listed player of the month, is the highest run scorer in that series.
She scored 8 runs in the first ODI and 40 runs in the second match.
The opening pair of Murshida Khatun and Farzana Haque gave away 125 runs.
Niger’s team confirmed the series with an easy win of seven wickets. Because of that performance, the 30-year-old batsman was named in the list of the best of the month.
Despite not winning the series against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal has spread the word. The left-arm spinner averaged 12.50 with six wickets.
She recorded career-best spell of 4/13 in the first ODI against Bangladesh.
In the second ODI, she took 2 wickets for 32 runs. Meanwhile, in the third ODI, she conceded just 30 runs from 60 balls despite taking no wickets.
Men Nominees are also announced.
Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami and Australia’s Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell are on the ICC Men’s Player of the Month list. Shami took the maximum wicket. Travis Head is the hero of the semi-final and final. And Maxwell scored a 128-ball double century against Afghanistan.
