Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of sexually abusing numerous women, announced that he will appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the claims against him on May 31—exactly one month after he left the nation.
“I will personally appear before the SIT on Friday, May 31 at 10 a.m., assist with the investigation, and address any accusations that may arise.” – In a video statement that broadcast on the Kannada TV channel AsiaNet Suvarna News, Mr. Prajwal said, “I have faith in the court, and I am confident I will come out of false cases through the court.”
“I went into depression & isolation”
Prajwal said he “went into depression and isolation” and that “few forces in Hassan (his constituency from which he was fielded in 2024 Lok Sabha elections) are against me because I am growing publicly.”
“On May 26, when the election (in Hassan constituency) got over, there was no case against me. SIT was not former. Two-three days after I left, I saw on YouTube these allegations against me. I also wrote to SIT asking for seven days’ time,” Revanna claimed.
Prajwal Revanna called the allegations “a political conspiracy” and said he was in “depression and isolation”. He also apologized to his family and party workers for not providing his whereabouts.
The MP from Karnataka further alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders spoke about it openly in public, saying, “This is a political conspiracy”.
The Karnataka state government has requested the central government to cancel the diplomatic passport of Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna on May 23.
Karnataka government sources on May 23 said that the Ministry of External Affairs is processing the cancellation of Janta Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport. If his passport is cancelled, he would be compelled to return.
Prajwal Revanna is thought to be in Germany after using his diplomatic passport to travel there late on April 27.
The Karnataka Police filed charges against Revanna and his father, former minister HD Revanna, on April 28 for criminal intimidation and sexual harassment. A woman who had worked for three and a half years in the Revanna home filed the complaint that served as the basis for the first information report.
This happened soon after videos purportedly shot by Prajwal Revanna himself of multiple women being sexually assaulted appeared online in advance of the constituency’s April 26 Lok Sabha elections. Three women have reported Prajwal Revanna for alleged sexual assault thus far.
Revanna’s decision to return and face the investigation is a significant development in this ongoing case.
A ‘Blue Corner Notice’ seeking information on Revanna’s whereabouts has already been issued by Interpol, following a request by the SIT via the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The impact of the ongoing sexual abuse case on Prajwal Revanna’s political career remains a subject of speculation and scrutiny. As an MP from Hassan and a member of the Janata Dal (Secular) party, Revanna’s reputation has been significantly tarnished by the allegations against him.
