A day after the Samajwadi Party (SP) threatened to walk out of the alliance with its I.N.D.I.A. partner Congress if the latter did not accept its offer of 17 seats in Uttar Pradesh in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, the two parties on Wednesday finally managed to stitch an electoral alliance in the politically most crucial state that sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha.
Out of 80, 17 to Congress and rest for SP
Detailed information about the alliance was shared in a joint press conference of both the parties. In this alliance , which was announced in Uttar Pradesh as well as Madhya Pradesh is now on track for 2024 Loksabha Elections.
17 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh have been given to Congress.
Are Congress & SP good friend’s now?
The Congress, which wants an alliance with Mamta Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal, is getting a positive response from at least Akhilesh Yadav.
Mamta Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal have adopted the path of Ekla Chalo for West Bengal and Punjab respectively and this was considered a big setback for the Congress but may it will be possible in Delhi, but the Congress perfectly makes talks with Akhilesh Yadav regarding the Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh.
Samajwadi Targeting Muslims Votes in Uttar Pradesh
The Samajwadi Party-Congress seat-sharing deal for the Lok Sabha election may have raised expectations in the alliance that it will consolidate the Muslim vote and fortify the INDIA bloc’s position in at least 24 Muslim dominated constituencies out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.
Muslims account for 19% of Uttar Pradesh’s population and their voting behaviour is likely to define the outcome on around 24 Lok Sabha seats with a 20-50% Muslim population. That is why the Muslim factor played an important role in sewing up the alliance.
Back Polls Statistics
In 2019, the Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance 15 seats in Uttar Pradesh, a majority of them in Muslim-dominated west UP, including Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur and Sambhal.
Expected Candidature for Loksabha elections in Congress
Talking about Congress candidates in the possible Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, then Priyanka Gandhi herself can contest from Rae Bareli which was a fort fir Gandhi Congress Family. As far as Amethi, Rahul Gandhi or Deepak Singh can be fielded in the elections.
From Maharajganj, Congress’s dynamic spokesperson Supriya Srinet can contest this time. Congress state president Ajay Rai may contest from Varanasi.
Akhilesh may Joins Nyay Yatra from Agra
Sources also said that since no consensus has been reached on seat sharing, SP President Akhilesh Yadav has not participated in the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav had said that he will not participate in the yatra until the seat sharing with Congress is finalized. Once the seat distribution is decided, the Samajwadi Party will join the Congress’ Nyay Yatra.
But as far as possible after agreeing on this seat sharing formula,
Now there is talk about Madhya Pradesh also
After the intervention of Priyanka Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh, the alliance between Congress and Samajwadi Party is considered finalized.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has also accepted the talk of alliance with Congress in Moradabad and confirmed that there will be an alliance between the two parties.
News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that an agreement was reached between the two parties after Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s phone conversation with Akhilesh Yadav.
After this, Akhilesh Yadav admitted that there is no dispute between SP and Congress regarding seat sharing.
Mayawat may spoil pre poll alliance
With Shivpal and the Congress on his side now, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav hopes to regain lost ground in the region, perhaps the reason why he commented, “All’s well that ends well.”
Nevertheless, the alliance is worried that Mayawati may play spoilsport.
Her decision to go it alone may lead to a three-way contest and divide anti- BJP votes.
Though the BSP’s strength has declined in successive elections, it enjoys the Jatav community’s support. The BSP won 10 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election with the Dalit- Muslim formula.
