The Congress Party should not waste much energy and stationery for me. Rather, use the remaining energy and stationery to save the party, Nirupam’s jibe over Congress after Expulsion notice.
Former MP Sanjay Nirupam on Thursday took a swipe at the Congress leadership over his expulsion, claiming it was done after he sent his resignation letter to the party.
Taking note of complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge late Wednesday evening approved Nirupam’s expulsion from the party for six years with immediate effect.
Sanjay Nirupam resigns from Congress
On Thursday morning, former Mumbai Congress chief Nirupam in a post on X said, “Looks like, immediately after the party received my resignation letter last night, they decided to issue my expulsion. Good to see such promptness.”
In the letter to Kharge, Nirupam said, “I have finally decided to fulfil your much-awaited desire and hereby announce that I chose to resign from the primary membership of the All India Congress Committee.”
Nirupam, who was eyeing the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency, was miffed with the party for allowing the Shiv Sena (UBT) to take the seat for the upcoming parliamentary polls.
The demand for action against Nirupam grew after he castigated the Maharashtra Congress leadership for “ceding” constituencies in Mumbai to the Uddhav Thackeray-led party during seat-sharing talks of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance for Lok Sabha elections.
Out from Congress Star Campaigner’s List earlier
Earlier on Wednesday, the Congress dropped Nirupam’s name as a star campaigner, indicating the crisis was escalating. Nirupam then launched a sharp attack, saying as the party was experiencing a “serious financial crisis”, it should utilise the stationery and energy to save itself, apparently alluding to the Income Tax Department’s action for tax demand.
Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole said that his name (Sanjay Nirupam) was included in the list of star campaigners. We have removed it. The way his statements are coming, they are anti-party.
In fact, on March 31, the party released the list of 40-star campaigners in Maharashtra for the Lok Sabha elections. Sanjay Nirupam’s name was also there in this.
The former MP from Mumbai North had also said the Congress leadership should not allow itself to be arm-twisted by the Shiv Sena (UBT).
Accepting the Shiv Sena’s (UBT’s) decision to unilaterally field candidates in Mumbai amounted to allowing the destruction of Congress, he had claimed.
Nirupam came to Congress from Shiv Sena
Former Shiv Sainik Nirupam had left Shiv Sena in 2005. He raised the issue of North Indian hawkers and later joined Congress. In 2009, he contested and won the Mumbai North seat. Nirupam had lost the 2014 election from the same constituency against BJP’s Gopal Shetty.
Sanjay is angry at not getting a ticket from Mumbai North-West
In Maharashtra, Congress, Shiv Sena Uddhav and NCP Sharad Pawar are in the MVA alliance. On March 27, the Shiv Sena Uddhav faction announced 17 candidates on Wednesday. Amol Kirtikar has been given a ticket from the Mumbai North-West seat. Sanjay Nirupam was preparing to contest elections from here. He became angry at not getting a ticket from Congress. Rahul Gandhi himself had assured him of a ticket from here.
Accusing Amol, Sanjay had said – ‘Such actions are being done deliberately to humiliate the Congress. The candidate to whom Uddhav Thackeray has given a ticket is a scammer Khichdi scam. At the time of Covid, BMC had provided this Khichdi to the migrant labourers for free.
Presently Amol’s father Gajanan Kirtikar is an MP from the North-West seat. He is in the group of CM Eknath Shinde. In 2019, he defeated Sanjay Nirupam by more than 2.60 lakh votes.
Former Maharashtra CM & Sr Congmen Chavan resigns
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan resigned from Congress on February 12. He had also left the post of MLA. He had submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar. After the resignation of Ashok Chavan, another Congress leader from Maharashtra Amarnath Rajurkar also resigned.
Ashok Chavan had said- I have not joined any party yet. I had distanced myself from the party since yesterday evening. I have not talked to any Congress MLA. I have not had any discussion with any party. It is my own decision to leave the party. I have no complaint against anyone.

Milind Deora joined Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) on January 14, hours before the start of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Milind is the son of veteran Congress leader Murli Deora. Milind had given information about his resignation on social media.
He wrote on social media – Today an important chapter of my political journey ended. I have resigned from the primary membership of Congress. With this, my family’s 55-year-old relationship with the party ended.
On Milind Deora leaving the party, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said that the timing of resignation has been decided by PM Modi. His father Murli Deora was a big leader of Congress. He had friendship with all parties, but he was a steadfast and determined leader of Congress.
Baba Siddiqui joins Ajit Pawar’s NCP
Former Maharashtra minister Baba Ziauddin Siddiqui joined Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on February 10. Siddiqui joined the party in Mumbai in the presence of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar NCP working president Praful Patel and other leaders.
He resigned from Congress on February 8. After taking membership in NCP, Baba Siddiqui fiercely targeted Congress. He said- In Congress, I was used like curry leaves, whose job is only to enhance the taste. When you are not listened to, you move away.
