Sarthak Educational Trust, a pioneering NGO committed to the mainstreaming and empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across India, is set to launch the “Sarthak Global Resource Centre” at Gurugram, Haryana.
Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar will inaugurate the GRC as a chief guest on Saturday. GRC is supported and funded by Amazon Development India,NIIF, Renew Power Private Limited, and many more private companies.
GRC-PwD has been a health, education, and skills development resource for disability inclusion since 2008, developed by the Sarthak Educational Trust. Jitender Aggarwal founded the Sarthak Educational Trust for people with disabilities. Over the years, Sarthak has reached out to more than 2 million people with disabilities with the goal of making them employable. It has successfully placed more than 60,000 PWD candidates in various sectors through its free services and programs across the country. Sarthak Educational Trust has a presence in 25 centers across the country. It plays an undeniable role in developing a clear and sensitive understanding of PwDs among the overall community and stakeholders.
Aims
In India, the disabled population is about 26.8 million, which is 2.21% of the total population. Thus, the number of PwDs is increasing but lacks resources to ensure their inclusion. Despite the difference in numbers, it is very clear that PwDs form a significant part of the Indian population. And the development of a country is possible only when all the citizens of that country get employment. Further, the interaction and attitudinal and environmental barriers between persons with disabilities result in disabilities that greatly delay their effective participation in society on an equal footing with others. Sarthak Global Resource Center is coming forward to provide necessary intervention and support systems to PwDs in such situations. GRC, a one-stop solution for Divyangjans from all over India, will play an important role in improving the lives of PWDs by acting as a center of education and crucial skills. PWDs generally suffer from low self-esteem and self-doubt. The main objective of setting up this center is to make them self-reliant by removing this doubt.
Plans of the conference
Sarthak Educational Trust and the National Abilympic Association of India are jointly organizing the 10th National Conference on Disability on December 8 and 9, 2023.The 2-day event will discuss the theme Glocal Partnerships: Paving the Way for an Inclusive, Accessible, and Sustainable World. The event included a rich exhibition in partnership with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DePWD), along with panel discussions, the inauguration of the Sarthak Global Resource Centre, and a start-up investor meet. Also, the North Zone Regional Skills Competition of the National Abilympics will also be held in grand style on these two days.
Dr. Jitender Aggarwal, Founder & CEO, Sarthak Educational Trust, shared, “We are proud to launch the Sarthak Global Resource Center for the benefit of the differently abled in our country. We aim to provide PwDs with all the resources they need to become self-reliant and prepare to face the world.”
According to Dr. Aggarwal, Sarthak has various funds raised for GRC from viable sources. “We are nowhere near the required amount to set up the center, but we had a mission that the GRC should be up and running by the end of 2023. In the near future, we will provide all services under one roof to the community, and we are looking to expand global resources with corporate support.” He added.
Sarthak Global Resource Center’s design includes multiple floors with special vision in the dark, a museum, an employment portal, a training center, a rehab center, and many other facilities, he said. The center will also house training and skills departments and facilities that can address any disability.
