50 solar parks with a combined capacity of 37,490 MW have been approved in 12 states till November 30. The Minister of New and Renewable Energy, R. K. Singh has announced it on Tuesday.
The government is going to implement a scheme for ‘Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects’ with a target capacity of 40 GW.
So far, 19 solarparks with a total of 10,401 MW of solar projects have been commissioned.
Government Steps in 2014
According to a PIB report, in the first week of December, the Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy and Power said that the government has approved a total of 50 solar parks with a capacity of 37,490 MW in 12 states across the country under the Solar Park Scheme since 2014.
Since the year 2018–19, solar projects have been arranged in solar parks in various states. On December 1, 2023, the Government of India paid Rs. 275 crore per its corpus fund to the International Solar Alliance and the budgeted cost of the ISA.
The government has also taken various steps to increase renewable energy, including solar energy, in the country.
The Minister of New and Renewable Energy, responded to a query that the Government of India was allowing up to 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) under the automatic route.
He also said that A special emphasis has been laid on new sub-stations under the Green Energy Corridor scheme for setting up new transmission lines and deploying renewable energy.
The government has introduced the Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM) to facilitate the sale of renewable energy power through exchanges.
Finally the government approved this initiative.
Solar Parks in 12 States
The use of new and renewable energy gives importance to sustainable resource conservation by saving environmental energy.
According to R.K. Singh, about 12,150 MW of solar park projects have been approved in Gujarat and 8,276 MW in Rajasthan.
Andhra Pradesh (4,200 MW), Madhya Pradesh (4,180 MW), Uttar Pradesh (3,730 MW), and Karnataka (2,500 MW).
Further, around 1,089 MW solar park projects have been sanctioned in Jharkhand, 750 MW in Maharashtra, 155 MW in Kerala, 100 MW in Chhattisgarh, and 20 MW in Mizoram.
Besides, 1,089 MW solar park projects, 750 MW in Maharashtra, 155 MGIn Kerala, 100 MW was also sanctioned in Chhattisgarh and 20 MW in Mizoram, according to the data.
Singh also said that two solar parks—Kadaladi Solar Park and Ramanathapuram Solar Park—of 500 MW each were approved in Tamil Nadu earlier, but later, slow progress and land constraints stood in the way of implementation.
