The bomb threat that was received by a Vistara flight departing from Delhi on Friday, which was carrying 177 passengers, turned out to be a hoax when the plane was searched by security personnel.
Officials say that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) reacted quickly and coordinatedly after receiving a “threatening call” from the Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Srinagar.
As is customary in cases of this kind of threat, the aircraft was immediately routed upon landing into an isolation bay.
“Everyone disembarked safely at the isolation bay. To ensure everyone’s safety, the aircraft is currently going through a comprehensive security inspection by the appropriate authorities,” an airport official stated.
All passengers are reportedly safe despite the disturbance, and every effort is being made to assure their security in handling the situation. We’ll keep you informed when further details become available.
The airline also released a statement after the event, stating, “We confirm that our team was made aware of a security threat on board Vistara flight UK 611, which was traveling from Delhi to Srinagar on May 31, 2024. The airplane safely landed at Srinagar International Airport, where all clients were disembarked. We then promptly notified the appropriate authorities in accordance with protocol. We completed the required security checks with complete cooperation from the relevant authorities.”
“The aircraft has been cleared to resume operations after all required checks have been completed. The safety and security of our passengers, employees, and aircraft are our top priorities at Vistara,” the statement continued.
In order to maintain the safety of air travel, authorities are looking into the origin of the bomb threat and taking all required precautions.
This occurs a few days after the Bomb Threat on Indigo Flight 6E2211 from Delhi to Varanasi was reported by the Delhi Fire Service. The Delhi Fire Service has verified that every passenger made their way out of the vehicle safely through the emergency exits.
Several bomb threats were reported across India in may 2024, including at Taj Hotel, Mumbai Airport, Delhi University colleges and more. Calls were deemed hoaxes after thorough investigations highlighting the need for enhanced security measures amidst rising concerns. Almost all the bomb threats turned out to be hoaxes.
