UK (PM) Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, said on Wednesday that Ukraine can deploy long-range missiles given by the UK to hit military targets in Russia during the conflict.
- Military Assistance: The UK PM has pledged substantial military aid to Ukraine. The then UK PM Rishi Sunak announced a massive uplift in support, including £500 million in additional military funding and the largest-ever delivery of vital equipment. This includes urgently needed ammunition, air defense systems, drones, and engineering support1. The UK PM committed to show solidarity with Ukraine and efforts to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities during this conflict.

- On the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the then UK PM Rishi Sunak, reaffirmed Britain’s support for Ukraine, pledging almost £250 million towards producing artillery shells. In January 2024, the UK announced £2.5 billion of military aid to Ukraine over the coming year, the largest annual commitment since the invasion began.
During the Russo-Ukrainian War, several countries have provided military aid to Ukraine.
- European Union (EU) and Its Member States: The EU and its countries have collectively provided the most aid to Ukraine. This includes military, financial, and humanitarian support. As of February 2023, all EU member states have donated military aid individually or through EU institutions.
- United States: The U.S. has significantly supported Ukraine, pledging about $45 billion in arms and military aid since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
- Germany and the United Kingdom: These countries have also made substantial commitments to aid Ukraine.
- NATO Allies: Several NATO countries, including Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, have sent or approved significant deliveries of military equipment to Ukraine.
The new UK PM Keir Starmer, has reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s unwavering support for Ukraine. Despite the change in government, the UK remains committed to supplying defensive aid to Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
Additionally, the UK has announced up to £242 million in bilateral assistance to support Ukraine’s humanitarian, energy, and stabilization needs. Earlier this year, the UK also pledged £140 million in humanitarian aid and guaranteed up to $500 million in loans to Ukraine through Multilateral Development Banks.
