Almost two-thirds of the league stage games have been completed. This Indian Premier League session has built some new milestone this session. From featherbed pitches to 12 runs per over in power plays and even scoring 250+ in a 20 over game is a matter of fact for the teams. Even those runs can be chased down during second batting.
Here we will discuss how the teams scored these huge totals with just 120 balls in their hand and sometimes the chasing team can chased this huge total and win the game.
Before this session there were only two 250-plus totals, one back in 2013, when RCB scored 263/5 against Pune Warriors India with a magnificent century from the “Universe Boss” Chris Gayle.
Other one was in 2022 when LSG scored 257/5 versus Punjab Kings.
But in this session, there have been 8 totals of more than 250. Among them Sunrisers Hyderabad built a record by scoring 287/3 against RCB. Sunrisers also scored 277/3 against Mumbai and when Mumbai was chasing down their total was 246/5. In KKR versus DC match also KKR also scored 272/7, which is their highest total in this session.
Even in the KKR versus RR match in the Eden Gardens KKR scored 223/6 but still they lost the match in spite of scoring a huge total, with a massive century from Jos Buttler.
There was another exciting match at the same venue (KKR versus RCB). KKR own the match by 1 run in the last ball thriller but 440 runs scored in that match. There was record chase by PBKS of 262 runs by Jonny Barstow with a massive century and a quick innings from his team mate Prabhsimran Singh.
So, from the above matches, can we say IPL destroy the real value of the cricket or it is the new cricketing evolution? The author feels that cricket is a game of bat and ball and the game should be played in a wicket which helped both the batter and bowler.
But unfortunately, in this session we can see the wickets are so much flat that it is difficult for the bowlers to bowl at right line and length. On the other hand, the batter get opportunity to score so many runs.
T20 World Cup will start from June this year. A lot of players from IPL will be playing there.
The high anticipation would be whether the teams be able to put so many runs on the board or the bowlers will be successful on that tournament
