As per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), Tibet’s Xizang was hit by an earthquake with a value of 4.3 on the Richter Scale on Saturday on June 1.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at Latitude 33.51 N and Longitude 86.05 E, at a depth of 30 kilometers. The earthquake occurred on Saturday at 4:29 pm (IST).
In a post on X, the NCS stated, “EQ of M: 4.3, On: 01/06/2024 16:29:09 IST, Latitude: 33.51 North, Longitude: 86.05 East, Depth: 60 Km, Location: Xizang.”
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, and no damages have been detected as of now.
The Xizang (also known as Lhasa) region of China is located in a high seismic zone, also known as the Tibet Plateau. This area is prone to earthquakes due to its location at the boundary between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate,
Earthquakes are natural disasters that result from the movement of tectonic plates beneath the Earth’s surface. This type of event can cause significant damage to buildings, infrastructure, and sanitize casualties. It’s important for people living in seismic-prone areas to have earthquake preparedness plans in place
The effects of earthquakes can vary depending on the location and intensity of the quake, as well as the preparation and response of local communities.
Earthquakes can provide valuable opportunities for researchers to study the behavior of the Earth’s crust, which can help scientists better predict future seismic events. Earthquakes can help to create new land and can stimulate economic growth.
