Narendra Modi, the incumbent prime minister, will take the oath of office for a third term at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on June 9. The national capital’s security has been stepped up, and leaders from the neighborhood and Indian Ocean region who want to attend the high-profile event will also be given special treatment.
The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by over 8,000 guests, including various professionals and cultural performers.
Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony is expected to host leaders from several neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and Mauritius, as well as the Maldives, aligning with India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy.
There will also be several dignitaries, including lawyers, doctors, artists, cultural performers, Viksit Bharat ambassadors as well as tribal women and sanitation workers, who are expected to take part in the event. Invitations have also been extended to around 50 religious leaders from all faiths, besides the Padma awardees and Mann Ki Baat participants.
A special invite has also been sent to beneficiaries of the central government schemes and a few transgenders are also expected among the guests at the Sunday’s event. Apart from this, the laborers who worked on the Central Vista project have also been invited.
Enhanced security measures are in place for foreign dignitaries, including special protocols at their hotels. Security measures include designated routes for dignitaries from their hotels to the venue, with top hotels like Leela, Taj, ITC Maurya, Claridges, and Oberoi under special security cover. Road closures and traffic diversions are expected, with increased border checks starting today.

Sixteen paramilitary units, NSG commandos, drones, and snipers will be part of a multi-layered security arrangement that will guard Rashtrapati Bhawan for the event, according to Delhi Police authorities.
Top officials from the Delhi Police have reportedly conducted a thorough security review at the Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of the preparation for the swearing-in ceremony.
President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the prime minister and other members of the Union Council of Ministers at 7:15pm on Sunday.
A multi-layered security plan will be implemented at Rashtrapati Bhawan, including five companies of paramilitary personnel, NSG commandos, drones, and snipers. A public advisory declared a No-Fly Zone over Delhi, prohibiting the use of various aerial platforms to prevent threats from criminal or terrorist activities during the ceremony. This restriction will be in effect from June 9 to June 10, with violators facing penalties under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
Around 2500 police personnel, including five companies of paramilitary and Delhi Armed Police (DAP) jawans, are planned to be stationed around the venue, according to an official.
In preparation for the event, there may be road closures or traffic diversions in central Delhi starting from Sunday morning. Enhanced security checks at the borders of the national capital will also be in effect starting Saturday.
