Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming web series, ‘Heeramandi’, features a song titled ‘Sakal Ban’.
An IG user has pointed out the similarities between its dance steps with ‘Padmaavat’s song, ‘Ghoomar’.
When we talk about elaborate sets, period romance dramas, or poetic aesthetics, one name that immediately pops up is that of the eminent Indian director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB).
Over the years, the filmmaker has directed some of the most visually appealing and gripping stories, like Devdas, Saawariya, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and many more.
And now, SLB is gearing up for the release of the period drama, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar on the streaming platform, Netflix.
However, the recent viral hook step of his new song has been receiving criticism from the netizens.
Heeramandi’s Sakal Ban Dance steps similar to Padmaavat’s Ghoomar
While most people on the internet have been going gaga over the song from Heeramandi, an Instagram user pointed out a particular similarity between Sakal Ban and Bhansaali’s Padmaavat’s song, Ghoomar, featuring Deepika Padukone.
The person said that the dance steps in the two songs are very similar, and it is evident by a look at them. The video clip drawing comparisons between Sakal Ban and Ghoomar has gone viral on the internet, garnering around 2.9 million views.
Sakal Ban based on Khusro’s work
Before the announcement of Heeramandi release dates, Bhansali released the serie first song, Sakal Ban, on the Bhansali Music YouTube channel on March 9, 2024.
The song’s lyrics penned by Amir Khusro way back, has been sung by Raja Hasan and picturised on Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sharmin Segal.
Sakal Ban beautifully depicts a Sanjay Leela Bhansali creation featuring a larger-than-life set, extravagant outfits and a symmetrical harmonious dance by everyone.
In Raja Hasan’s soulful rendition, each actress is seen immersed in the vibrant shades of mustard, yellow, and gold, exuding charm and gracing the screen with their presence. But Heeramandi’s ‘Sakal Ban’ is more than just a song. It encapsulates a 700-year-old story that will alter your perception of the music.
