Over the years, Abhishek Bachchan, son of iconic actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, has shown his acting chops, but the road to recognition has been quite bumpy for him.
One of the most versatile and talented Bollywood actor, Abhishek Bachchan, celebrates his 48th birthday today on 5 February.
Born in the famous Bachchan household to iconic stars Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, has carved a niche for himself through a diverse and compelling filmography.
Known for his acting skills, Bachchan has portrayed a wide range of characters, leaving a long lasting impact on audience with his charachters. Even though huge commercial success has sometimes eluded him including huge box office collection, the actor is recognised as a powerful performer, who has only honed his skills in the last couple of decades.
Abhishek has worked in some highly acclaimed films and has been widely praised for his performances. To make Abhishek’s day extra special, his sister Shweta took to social media to pen a special note for him.
Despite being the son of Big B Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek faced a rocky start in Bollywood. No director wanted to take the risk of launching him, fearing the immense expectations that came with being the son of Big B.
Amitabh Bachchan’s love for Abhishek Bachchan is well known. In the show Kaun Banega Crorepati aired on Sony Television, when Abhishek was hosting the show on Amitabh’s birthday, Big B also becomes emotional and on such occasions, he tells people in the show that the most priceless gift of his life is his two children. “Shweta & Abhishek”. He thanked his wife for that precious gifts.
Abhishek’s Tough Times
“I think I met all the directors I could have met, and they all very respectfully declined saying, ‘We don’t want the responsibility of watching you,” Abhishek said at the Hindi Actors Roundtable on Galatta Plus.
After doing Refugee with Kareena Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan got offers for many films one after the other, but all of them flopped at the box office. He had given not one or two-three but 15 back-to-back flop films, which included Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya (2000), Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (2000), Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai (2001), Ya Maine Bhi Pyar Kiya. (2002), Shararat (2002), Main Prem Ki Deewani (2003) and ‘LOC- Kargil’.
First hit in four years: ‘Dhoom’ booms Abhishek Career
The first four years were very disappointing for Abhishek Bachchan’s career.
After a string of flop films one after the other, the year 2004 was special for the actor, because this year he gave the first superhit film of his career. His first hit film was Dhoom. Along with Abhishek, who played the role of ACP Jai Dixit, John Abraham, Uday Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Esha Deol were also in lead roles.
While “Dhoom” is often associated with its high-octane action and Hrithik Roshan’s charismatic villain, Abhishek Bachchan’s portrayal of ACP Jai Dixit shouldn’t be overlooked. His character provides the anchor to the film, and Abhishek’s performance as the dedicated cop trying to outsmart the criminals adds a layer of intrigue to the action-packed narrative. The movie is considered a trend setter for slick cop movies, and Abhishek’s look became the talking point in the franchise, that over the years, starred everyone from Uday Chopra to Hrithik Roshan to John Abraham to Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif- Aishwarya Rai!
Junior Bachchan & Rai
Abhishek Bachchan’s portrayal of Gurukant Desai, a determined and ambitious entrepreneur, in “Guru” is nothing short of brilliant. The film explores the journey of a man who rises from a small town to build a business empire. Abhishek’s nuanced performance captures the essence of the character’s resilience and the challenges he faces. The movie received critical acclaim for its engaging narrative and Bachchan’s compelling performance. Co-starring Aishwarya Rai.
Abhishek Bachchan’s Hit List
After Dhoom, Abhishek Bachchan got a chance to revive his faltering career. Bunty Aur Babli helped me establish my foothold in the industry. This movie was also a hit at the box office. Then it seemed as if Abhishek’s luck shined. He has given hit films like Sarkar, Dus, Bluffmaster, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Dhoom 2, Guru, Sarkar Raj, Dostana, Paa, Bol Bachchan, Dhoom 3, Happy New Year. Abhishek was honored with the National Award for Paa.
Abhishek’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna Hit in Bollywood
In this unconventional take on love and relationships, Abhishek Bachchan plays the role of Rishi Talwar. The film explores the complexities of modern-day marriages and societal expectations. Abhishek’s performance adds depth to the character, portraying the struggle of a man, who is insanely in love with his wife Maya, but she is unable to harbor any romantic feelings for him. As time passes, Rishi and Maya grow aloof, and Maya falls in love with Dev, who is married to Riya! One of Karan Johar’s most controversial movies, this one co-starred Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta.
Abhishek’s Manmarziyaan
Anurag Kashyap’s “Manmarziyaan” showcases Abhishek Bachchan in a role that is a departure from his usual characters. Playing Robbie Bhatia, a calm and mature man entangled in a complex love triangle, Bachchan’s performance is subtle yet impactful. The film received acclaim for its realistic portrayal of relationships, as Abhishek played a man, whose wife is still in love with her ex boyfriend! Co-starring Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu.
