Before the Lok Sabha elections, Indian star batsman Shubman Gill has been made the state icon of Punjab. The Election Commission has entrusted him with a big responsibility.
Before the elections, he will be seen making voters aware about voting. This information was given by Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C. Currently, Gill is seen playing in the India vs England series.
Target for LS 70% Vote
The Chief Electoral Officer said in a statement issued on Monday, “Shubman Gill will be a part of the campaign separately. Their aim is to create awareness among the voters, so that the voting percentage in the state can cross the 70 percent mark.”
2019 Punjab voting Stats in LS Election
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, there was 65.96 percent voting for 13 seats.
This time the election officials have set a target of 70 percent voting. The slogan, ‘This time 70 crossed’ has also been given by the Commission.
Sibin C further said, “In a meeting with all the Deputy Commissioners of Punjab on Friday, they were asked to identify areas where the voting percentage was low during the last elections.”
Gill’s icon responsibility comes after his brilliant century
The young batsman had scored a brilliant century in the second match of the ongoing Test series against England. This century came from his bat after 12 innings. At the same time, he was preparing to score a century in the third test also.
However, the batsman was out on 91 runs. He missed scoring his second century in this series by nine runs.
Shubman Gill is the second batsman to score the most runs for India in the three Test matches played so far. He has scored 252 runs so far.
At the same time, his highest score is 104 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal is the highest run scorer in this series so far. He has scored 545 runs with the help of two consecutive double centuries.
