Congress has today released the first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.
While holding a press conference this evening, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal has announced 39 candidates. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s name is also in the first list.

According to this list, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is going to contest elections again from Wayanad. Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel will contest from Rajnandgaon seat.

There is no name of any candidate from Uttar Pradesh in the first list of Congress. In such a situation, it is expected that Congress can announce those candidates in the second list.
The names of the 39 candidates whom Congress has announced in the first list. Out of these, 15 candidates are from general category. While the remaining 24 candidates are from SC, ST, OBC and minority categories.
In the first list of Congress, 12 candidates are below 50 years of age.
Eight candidates are between 50 to 60 years of age, 12 candidates are between 61 to 70 years of age while seven candidates are between 71 to 76 years of age.

In the first list of candidates of the main opposition party, the maximum number of 16 candidates are from Kerala. Congress will contest 16 out of total 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala.
Allies will contest elections on four seats. Congress has declared candidates for six seats in Chhattisgarh, seven in Karnataka, four in Telangana, two in Meghalaya and one seat each in Lakshadweep, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
The party has re-contested all its 15 sitting Lok Sabha members in Kerala. Along with this, it has again expressed confidence in Jyotsna Mahant, MP from Korba seat of Chhattisgarh and DK Suresh, sitting MP from Bengaluru Rural seat of Karnataka. A few days ago, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released the first list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.
38% tickets given to OBC; There will be a litmus test for big leaders in the Hindi belt
62% of Congress candidates are SC/ST/OBC/Muslim.
In the first list of 39 candidates of Congress, only 15 candidates i.e. about 38% are from general category. Congress has given tickets to 24 candidates of SC/ST/OBC/Muslim category i.e. about 62%.
Congress has given only 10% tickets to women. Whereas candidates below 50 years of age are 31%.
Rahul Gandhi has been continuously raising his voice regarding caste census for the last few months. He also talked about participation in Parliament according to population.
38% OBC candidates have got a place in the first list of Congress candidates. This is about 10% more than the first list of BJP.
Congress has stayed away from the Hindi heartland and has announced candidates from Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
